UPDATE (March 30, 2020): It appears Billie Eilish's journey into blondeness wasn't quite complete when she revealed that her neon-green and black hair-color combo was no more on March 17. At the time, the award-winning singer shared a casual yet stunning portrait in which, after wearing her famous two-tone look for so long, she showed she was now sporting a buttery blonde shag. But a new photo suggests she may be heading to a more platinum place.

On Monday, March 29, Eilish posted a new selfie in which she's wearing a ponytail that appears to be a whiter blonde than before. The lighter, less-yellow shade of blonde is perhaps the result of a toning treatment or a whole lotta purple shampoo. Either way, we're excited to see if goes even icier in the weeks to come.

And that brings us to a theory: It can take weeks to significantly lighten hair — especially hair that's been mostly black for quite some time. And perhaps you caught Eilish's TikTok the same day she revealed her new blonde color, in which she seemingly lifts her green and black hair off her head like a wig. Now, we're not suggesting her neon roots were a wig all this time. However, considering it's unlikely (though possible) that she went from the two-tone style to buttery blonde in just a couple of days, we're thinking maybe — just maybe — she's actually been getting increasingly blonde longer than we think and was wearing a wig that looked like her signature style for her last few public appearances before the big reveal.

Eilish loves to mess around with her fans, so we may never know exactly how she reached her current hair color, but we're definitely watching closely to see how her shade story continues.

We weren't quite sure the day would ever come, but it's finally happened: Billie Eilish said goodbye to her signature black hair with neon-green roots. In fact, the singer made a complete 180-degree hair transformation — she's now wearing a bright yellow-blonde shade, which she's paired with a shaggy new haircut and shorter bangs. Eilish revealed the new look to her 77.7 million Instagram followers with a selfie on March 17.

“Pinch me,” Eilish captioned the post, pointing out the irony that she ditched her green hair on St. Patrick's Day, of all days. Clearly, her fans are into the new look because they immediately flooded the post with more than 100,000 and counting comments, many of which are in all capital text and feature plenty of heart-eyed emojis.

This certainly isn't the first time Eilish has made a drastic hair change like this. Before those acid-green roots became her thing, she played around with her hair color quite a bit. Soft brown, white-blonde, turquoise, dark blue, and silver are just a few of the hair shades the singer has adopted in the past couple of years. Still, this dandelion-like hue is one we've never seen on Eilish — we have to wonder if it's just a base for another fun, more vibrant color.

Only time will tell if Eilish is planning any more major hair experiments, but this unexpected blonde look is so pretty on its own, we're kind of hoping she enjoys it for a while before her next switch-up.
